Gingerbread Dog Biscuit Treat Recipe
'Tis the season for baking up homemade dog treats for your pup & your fur friends. Although you can't share human gingerbread cookies with your dog due to their high fat & sugar content, you can bake up a batch of dog friendly gingerbread cookies for the holidays.
When creating our Gingerbread Dog Biscuit recipe, I choose three spices to give it that wonderful gingerbread taste. Besides it's yummy flavoring, there are many benefits that come in the spices that are included in our recipe. Let's take a look at the spices:

Ginger: This spice is filled with antioxidants and contains anti-inflammatory properties that can promote healthy blood circulation, ease bloating, and increase heart health. This powerful spice is a great addition in your pup's treats.
Turmeric: It's woody, earthy & spicy notes adds a nice layer of flavor to homemade dog biscuits. At the same time, this spice includes an active ingredient called curcumin. Curcumin has anti-inflammatory properties that support your dog’s immune health. Turmeric also has antioxidant benefits as well.
Cinnamon: This delicious spice adds a sweet flavor to your pup's cookies. But its benefits are even sweeter. Cinnamon contains antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal properties. Also, it promotes heart health and can regulate blood sugar levels.
As we choose these spices, I do want to note to avoid using Gingerbread Spice Mix as a substitute in our recipe, as Gingerbread Spice Mix often contains allspice & nutmeg which should be avoided in your pet's treats & diet. GINGERBREAD DOG BISCUIT TREATS
Recipe by Loki Doki Dog
INGREDIENTS: 1 C Stone Ground White Whole Wheat Flour (aka Golden Whole Wheat), ¾ C Oat Flour, ¾ tsp ground ginger, ¾ tsp cinnamon, ¼ tsp turmeric, 1 egg, 2 TBSP Coconut Oil, melted, 1 TBSP Blackstrap Molasses, 1 TBSP Honey, 4 TBSP water
DIRECTIONS
-
Preheat oven to 325.
-
Combine dry ingredients into a mixing bowl. Mix well with a whisk. Set dry ingredients to the side.
-
Begin to slowly combine dry ingredients to wet ingredients with a large mixing spoon. When it begins to form into a ball of dough, knead dough with your hands as you add the remainder of the dry ingredients. You might not need to use all of the dry mix. You want the dough to no longer be sticky so it’s easy to stamp with your Loki Doki Dog Cutters, but also not too dense where it’s hard to knead the dough with your hands. Tip: when you begin to knead with your hands, dab the ball of dough into the flour mix as you knead. This method helps to prevent adding too much flour.
-
Roll out dough to ¼ inch to create the best looking treats when stamping out your dough with Loki Doki Dog Dog Biscuit cutters. This height will ensure you get the impression you do want. If the dough is rolled out too thick, you will get impressions you don’t want.
-
Set stamped cookies onto a parchment lined cookie sheet. Bake in oven for approximately 22-25 minutes.
TIP: After 10 minutes of baking, check your dog biscuits to see if any cookies are puffing up. If any are, you can pierce the bottom of your cookies with a fork to deflate them and prevent any further puffing.
DON'T FORGET: Always Check Your Food Product's Ingredient List Not all human-grade food products are made the same. Before making anything homemade for your pups, check over the food label to ensure they are no additives that are toxic for your dog to consume.
